Southern California! – The Sequel.

Hey Everyone!

I most certainly apologize for the long lapse in posts as I’ve just been getting this new blog up and running. I had simply found myself in a big rut that I was having a difficult time climbing out of as I was going through some pretty serious real life issues at the time. I realize it’s probably trivial as I know that currently I really don’t have any sort of a reader base but even so, it’s all in the past now but I still feel that an apology is in order.

::lets out a sign of relief::

OKAY! Now that we’ve got that out of the way it’s time to discuss the GOOD news! I’ve finally made my triumphant return to the Southern California area and JUST in time for E3! (Pretty convienent how that worked out eh? :) ) After returning to Evansville, Indiana in order to take care of some necessary medical issues, it’s been a few years but I’m happy to say I’m once again living in the Greater Los Angeles / Orange County area.

Due to this wonderful news that also means I’m currently seeking employment from San Francisco to San Diego. I most certainly wouldn’t turn down an offer anywhere else should something appealing arise but this region is my main area of focus.

That said, I plan on putting up an E3 impressions post after the show so definitely check back to see what I have to say about it!

Stay Frosty,

Wesley

Getting to know me better.

This is my first official post and even though it’s not going to be about my thoughts on the gaming industry, I felt it would be useful or interesting to let everyone know what games are currently keeping me occupied as well as the things I like and dislike about them.  It’s certainly not going to be a heavy post, simply one that should (hopefully) allow you readers to get to know me and what I’m into a bit better.  I greatly encourage readers to comment and let me know what you’re playing as well and what you like or dislike about them!

I also want you to know that I’ve got a pretty wild sense of humor.  It will certainly come out in my less serious posts, but when if I’m posting an article on mechanics, design and so forth, it’s safe to assume I’m in “serious business” mode.  MOVING ON!

As I said in my previous short post, my primary/favorite genre is MMORPG games but that is in no way shape or form all I play.  I’m also an avid console gamer and do my best not to “choose sides” when it comes to the debates on “which system is the best”.  That said, when it comes to multi-platform titles, I generally purchase them on XBOX 360 simply because I know more people with 360s and I do prefer the XBOX controller over the Dual Shock 3.  If a title comes out that’s clearly better for PS3, such was the case with Final Fantasy XIII, I’m quick to purchase the better of the two versions.  Neither system is clearly better in my opinion and I enjoy every console for their strengths and exclusive titles.

Up until recently I had started playing World of Warcraft again and was greatly enjoying Cataclysm.  I think Blizzard did an outstanding job in many ways to bring some of the challenge back into the game but its certainly got it’s share of flaws.  I was raiding as a Holy Cowadin but unfortunately due to your standard guild drama we/I stopped raiding.  About the same time Rift was about to begin its head start so I decided to give it a try.

I was immediately impressed with Trion Worlds game and besides some really long queue times, the head start and launch was one of the best I’ve ever experienced in the past 15 years I’ve spent playing MMORPGs.  There have been constant hot fixes and small patches that have always been quick to address any issues that may have cropped up.  The only other issue since launch was that a large amount of accounts were hacked, however yet again they were very quick to fix the issue.  I’m currently a  level 37 Defiant Cleric on the Faemist server and fully plan on posting a full article on my impressions of Rift once I reach the level cap.

Aside from that I have been playing the occasional League of Legends game with a few of my friends.  It’s really my first ‘serious’ foray into a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) style game so aside from the fact that I’m pretty terrible I’m enjoying myself although I haven’t had a lot of time to play.

The only other game I’ve played at all recently is Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which is the third in what’s my all time favorite fighting game franchise.  The MvC2 being my favorite fighting game of all time with Mortal Kombat 2 being right behind it.  It took me a while to get used to the new control scheme but after I did I’ve really started enjoying what I’ve gotten to play of it.

Anyway, that about wraps it all up for what I’ve been playing.  I apologize if I rambled on to long but I felt I should give a bit of background into what has interested me lately.

Please take a moment to register and leave a comment with what’s been taking up your gaming time these days, I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone is playing!

Sup Noobs!

Hello, my name is Wesley and this is my blog.  I’m an avid gamer.  I primarily play MMORPGs but I also get in a healthy dose of console gaming and all other genre’s as well.  I’ve been directly involved in the video game industry for the past six years in some form or another.  I’m a previous employee of Activision where I was in the QA department, first as a tester and then as a floor lead.  I then moved to Orange County where I worked as a Flash Developer and programmed games for clients such as AOL Time Warner, Sony Pictures, Ad Council, Guinness Book of World Records, and many others.

I’m now currently freelancing as a Flash/Web Developer and enjoy games as much as I possibly have time for.  This blog is intended to not only give my personal impressions of games and what I’m enjoying in the communities I’m involved in but also from a critical analytical perspective of the gaming industry in general.

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure where this blog will go but I’d be happy for you to read along and join me on this epic journey!

Wesley.
